My new bedroom!!!

I spent some time last week and this week redoing our bedroom. I don't have a good before picture but considering how yucky it was before and the fact that it took me four years to do it I might be embarrassed to post them. We've redone a lot in this house and the bedroom was low on our list. It was painted poor colors and the trim was painted the same color as the walls.

Aww...my tiny baby!

You can see the wall colors here behind newborn Nolan. It was a dirty, pea green on three walls and a orange/red on the bathroom door, closet door, and one wall. Now we have.... (It's a shade of, not the purple it kinda looks like in the pics!)

Tim won't get to see it in person in for over a week!

My tiny little termite...

So Nolan has finally decided to combine two of his skills. I caught him gnawing on his crib while standing in it yesterday before his nap. We purchased a nice convertible crib and plan to use it as a toddler bed and full size bed so teeth marks really weren't part of the design.

I had previously seen this gummy rail cover you can apply so we did an emergency trip to Babies R Us before bedtime. Unfortunately, the railings are packaged in 50" segments. To do the long front side and the two shorter sides I would need at least 2 packages and even that left one side a little short. The railing weren't cheap at $27 a package but replacing his bed would be much more expensive.

I installed them and Nolan approves!

While I was folding laundry in his room today, Nolan found the side that isn't fully protected but since it faces away from the door and into the corner I don't think he will usually stand there.

Playing outdoors

Nothing super exciting here! It has been too hot for much outdoor activity or many walks recently. Today we took a quick break and headed out under the shade of our front yard tree for some blanket and exploration time.

Nolan loves pulling grass but gets a little weirded out by the texture if he crawls off the blanket. The tree was a fun new toy now that my little boy is able to stand and pull himself up.

Crawling means that almost all of my shots end up as up close shots of Nolan's head as he races towards me!

At least it's an adorable little head!!

...and so it begins

Here is Nolan's newest trick!!

He hasn't stopped making these sounds since he started. Of course he doesn't know he is saying Dada but I repeat it to him every day and he knows I got excited when he first did it!

Random thoughts in the early morning...

I just called Nolan over to me and he crawled hand over foot (no bunny hops or belly scoots) and ended up in my arms 8 feet away.

My baby gives great kisses now.

Sometimes he gets distracted while kissing and chews on noses.

The number six key above my keyboard no longer works since a pile of dog drool was found on the laptop. Good thing there is a number pads next to the keyboard.

I can officially ask for a high chair in a restaurant and use a cart in the grocery store.

A smiling, propped up in a crawl baby is waiting for me in his crib every morning.

The horribly humid weather is officially back.

Our single stair has been 50% conquered. We can stand up against it and get half way up it in a crawl.

I have a super sweaty baby who isn't a fan of hot weather.

We did our first bit of babyproofing.

We need to do a lot more!

Playing in the...

...TOILET!!

Now that Nolan is eating solids his easy-peasy breastfed baby poops have disappeared only to be replaced by gooey, stinky "bigger" kid poo. For disposable diapers this doesn't matter, but for cloth diapers it signals a change.

Gone are the days that I could just throw diaper and all into the wash with no concern for the poo. Now, I have to rinse off or scrape it off first. As an aside did you know that disposable diaper users are supposed to empty the diaper of poo and flush it before disposing? Yep, landfills aren't supposed to have human waste. It's biohazard!

Luckily he still only goes once or twice a week but yesterday's mess was enough to make me look for solutions. I tried flushing the toilet and swishing the diaper to no avail.I had enough of playing in the toilet so today I went to Lowe's and tried my hand at plumbing.

I made a do-it-yourself diaper sprayer which is hooked up to the water valve on the toilet. Here's my final product!

Check out this blog (Gidget Goes Home) for more details. Mine is similar but not exact. It wasn't too hard but I did have to improvise a bit.

We'll find out in a few days how well it works but for now it is plumbed and not leaking and the shut off valve works great!
